Oak Tree Cottage

Wild Camping at Oak Tree Cottage

"simplicity is very much the watchword here" and "as close to wild camping as can be had on a campsite" - is how Dixe Wills described camping at Oak Tree Cottage in his superb book Tiny Campsites. Our one acre Long Meadow is accessed from the very quiet country lane, Cratfield Rd, which runs between the pretty north Suffolk villages of Huntingfield and Cratfield. The meadow is part of our 3 acre small-holding which we try to look after in an eco friendly way by being as organic as possible and is all grass bounded by a small shallow stream on one side with hedges and fields on the other sides. The main pitch has a fire pit and you can forage for your own firewood in the meadow, after all, aren't campfires are the essence of a wonderful night under the stars? There are no facilities other than plenty of fresh running water. With this in mind we do feel that our meadow works best for couples or individual campers, it is a quiet site where you can sit back and enjoy the countryside at it's best.

We are only 5 miles away from the small market town of Halesworth with its pretty pedestrian high street (Thoroughfare) and supermarket. Halesworth has plenty of car parking and easy access to a wealth of independent shops, pubs, market, museum and The Cut Theatre. The north Suffolk beaches at Walberswick and Dunwich are all a short drive away as is the lovely coastal town of Southwold with its unique pier and shops. We love dogs and you are very welcome to bring along your own, on a lead at all times please and make the most of the local walks (there are pubs!) Children are welcome and there is plenty of space to run around in the long grass. Our own chickens, sheep, ducks and of course soapy goats are close by and fresh free-range eggs are always available at the farm gate.
